Herbal baths salts are widely known for their amazing benefits, from promoting sleep and relaxation to offering skin-nourishing and aromatherapeutic benefits. But an equally wonderful—and lesser known—herbal bath infusion is bath tea!
What is bath tea?
Bath tea is made from a combination of herbs, botanicals, and other skin nourishing ingredients like salts and oils. Bath teas can be customized for specific concerns, such as mental wellness or skin conditions, and they are typically placed into cloth tea bags before being placed in a hot bath.
Before discovering bath teas, I had always struggled with the cleanup process after using bath salts or herbal bath infusions. As anyone who has taken an herbal bath will attest, they are notorious for leaving a little piles of sticks, flower petals, and leaves around your drain and tub floor!! That’s why simply placing your bath salt mixture into little tea bags is such a great hack—you get all of the benefits without the frustrating cleanup!
How to Use Bath Tea
Fill muslin tea bags with whichever bath tea mixture you choice. Simply throw a teabag or two into the hot water to steep as you run your bath. The botanicals will continue to infuse the bath water throughout your bath.
When you are done bathing, remove the teabags and compost or dispose of the herbs inside. To reuse the cloth bags, I like to turn them inside out, place them inside a delicates bag, and wash them in my next load of laundry.

Making DIY Bath Tea Gifts
I love placing several bath tea bags into a glass jar to give away as a gift. They’re perfect for the holidays, birthdays, or just as a thoughtful surprise for a friend! To make your gift extra special, I recommend using some twine to attach dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, dried flowers, or small sprigs of trees—as well as a little label explaining what they are and how to use them.

Reusable cloth or cotton muslin tea bags
2-3 cups bath salts or botanical blend of your choice
Small scoop or spoon

To make:
Scoop the bath salt mixture into the muslin tea bags until full. Secure the tops and place in storage jars as you go.
Seal the storage jar when you’re done and store in a cool, dry place. If you’re giving the jars away as gifts, I love using twine to attach a label with instructions for use and some dried oranges or cinnamon sticks!
