Moon Magic Pillow Mist

I’m celebrating tonight’s full moon with a new DIY recipe—Moon Magic Pillow Mist! This pillow mist was made with essential oils that promote sleep and relaxation (and they smell so good, too). Aside from their aromatherapeutic benefits, these herbs and flowers are also associated with spiritual protection, purification, and healing—a wonderful combination for rituals throughout the moon cycle.
How to Make Moonwater
This recipe calls for moonwater as an optional ingredient. If you don’t have the time, energy, or access to make moonwater—regular water will work just fine!
To make moonwater, fill a glass bottle or jar with clean water on the night of a full moon. Place the jar on a windowsill or outdoors to absorb moonlight. Set your intentions for the moonwater and leave it overnight. In the morning, retrieve it and use it however you like—you can drink it, use it in herbal recipes and ritual baths, or store it for use in magical DIYs.
Herbal and Aromatherapy Benefits
This DIY calls for lavender, eucalyptus, ylang ylang, neroli, and chamomile essential oils. Each of these oils carry excellent herbal and aromatherapeutic benefits, so free to omit or substitute any you don’t have—your pillow mist will still be effective. Here are some of the benefits of each:
Lavender - Relieves stress and promotes relaxation and deep sleep. It’s also known to have cleansing, protection, and purification properties.
Eucalyptus - Promotes relaxation and respiratory health. Eucalyptus is believed to help with spiritual growth, healing and cleansing.
Ylang ylang - Stress relief and calming properties. Ylang ylang is often used in reconciliation, serenity, and fertility spells.
Neroli - Reduces stress and promotes sleep. It’s commonly used in purification, courage, and love rituals.
Chamomile - Treats insomnia and anxiety and relaxes the nervous system. Its magical properties include love, protection, and purification.
You can use this pillow mist nightly as a natural sleep aid—simply mist your pillow with it a few times before going to sleep! If you’d like to use it as part of a moon ritual or spiritual practice, set an intention (such as protection, peace, or purification) as you make the pillow mist, and again as you spray it on your pillow before going to sleep after a moon ritual. The full moon is the most powerful phase of the entire lunar cycle, making it an excellent time to practice rituals—but you can use this DIY at any tine throughout the phases of the moon.
Moon Magic Pillow Mist
Makes 1 bottle of pillow mist
Ingredients and Supplies:
10 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
5 drops ylang ylang essential oil
5 drops neroli essential oil
5 drops chamomile essential oil
Moonwater (if you don’t have moonwater, regular water will work just fine!)
2 or 4 oz fine mist glass spray bottle (I used a blue bottle to protect the essential oils from exposure to light)
To make:
Add each of the essential oils to your glass spray bottle. Close the lid and shake to blend the oils.
Open the bottle and top off with moonwater or regular water. Attach the top of the bottle and shake again to combine.
To use, simply mist on your pillow as part of your nightly routine or ritual. Enjoy!!
