Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate

This calming and uplifting Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate is a delicious way to warm up after a brisk morning walk or unwind on a cozy autumn evening. Made with rich cacao, pumpkin puree, and cozy autumn spices, it’s the perfect warming drink for the transition from fall into winter.

While this recipe makes a rich hot chocolate with a classic pumpkin spice flavor, please feel free to adjust the spices to your liking.

Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate

Makes 1 cup

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp cacao

  • 1 tsp cinnamon 

  • 1/4 tsp ginger

  • 1/4 tsp cloves

  • 1/4 tsp allspice

  • Pinch of nutmeg 

  • Pinch of salt 

  • 1 cup milk of your choice (dairy or plant-based)

  • 3 tbsp pumpkin purée

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 3 tbsp maple syrup 

  • Toppings such as marshmallows, whipped cream, cinnamon, chocolate shavings, optional

To make:

  1. Make the spice blend. In a small bowl, mix together the cacao, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, allspice, nutmeg, and salt until completely combined. 

  2. In a small saucepan, bring the milk, pumpkin puree, vanilla, and maple syrup to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat. Add the spice blend, whisking continuously for 1-2 minutes until completely combined. 

  3. Pour into a mug and top with marshmallows, whipped cream, cinnamon, and chocolate shavings if desired. Enjoy!
