Cranberry Ginger Hot spiced Cider
Makes 12 cups
Ingredients:
2 quarts apple cider
1 quart cranberry juice (**see note)
1 medium orange, sliced
1 small apple, sliced
1 cup fresh cranberries
1 inch fresh ginger, sliced
2 cinnamon sticks
2 whole cloves
1 star anise
2 tbsp maple syrup (plus more to taste if desired) (**see note)
To make:
Add all ingredients to a large pot and bring to a simmer over medium low heat. Cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Turn off the heat and let cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
** Note: You can use either sweetened cranberry juice (such as Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice) or 100% pure unsweetened cranberry juice for this recipe. If you use sweetened cranberry juice, you likely won’t need to add any sweetener, but if you use unsweetened juice, you may want to add some maple syrup to balance out the bitterness. I like to start with 2 tbsp maple syrup and add more to taste if needed.
