Orange French Toast
Perfect for chilly winter mornings, this Orange French Toast is one of my favorite cozy breakfasts. I usually use brioche for this recipe, but it would also be fantastic with challah, a soft white bread, or even sourdough!
Orange French Toast
Makes 4 pieces
Ingredients:
4 pieces thick bread of your choice (I used brioche)
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk of your choice
2 tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp orange zest
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Pinch of salt
Butter for cooking
Chopped oranges, chopped pecans, and maple syrup for garnish
To make:
To a shallow bowl or pie dish, add the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, vanilla, orange zest, cinnamon, and salt. Whisk well until completely combined.
Add 2 tsp of butter to a skillet over medium heat. Dip a piece of brioche into the egg mixture, flip over to coat, and then add to the skillet. Work in batches to fill the pan with brioche. Cook the bread until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
If desired, peel the remaining oranges (after zesting) and chop into pieces. Before serving, top the French toast with chopped oranges, chopped pecans, and maple syrup.
