Things are getting cozy over here! I'm in the midst of a big apartment makeover, and I've spent the past couple days setting up this little reading corner in my tiny studio apartment. It’s easily become my favorite spot in the whole apartment. I could spend all day curled up on these comfy floor cushions!
Today, I wanted to give you a tour of my cozy bohemian reading nook, and share some tips on how I created it—in the hopes that it’ll inspire you to create a peaceful, calming space in your own home!
Setting Up the Reading Nook: Rug and Furniture
I decided to section off a corner of my studio apartment to set up my little reading nook. I repurposed a 3-2-1 tiered cube shelf as a bookshelf / makeshift room divider, placing the 3-cubed side directly against the wall. I really love how it turned out—especially how the tiered bookshelves descended from the wall into the center of the space.
I wanted to keep things cozy with a soft, bohemian shag rug—and this one from Safavieh was a great quality rug for the price!!
Floor Cushions and pillows
So, a fun fact about me: I am IN LOVE with floor cushions. I have way, wayyy too many. But, I think they’re one of the best inventions of all time. They’re soft yet supportive, sturdy and stackable, and they create a wonderful cozy, relaxed atmosphere in your living space.
I aimed for a variety of fabric textures and colors to create an eclectic bohemian feel. I ended up going with a combination of velvet and corduroy floor cushions, and grabbed a couple of velvet throw pillows from Ikea I already had in my home to add to the space.
Some of the cushions and pillows I used in my reading nook are no longer in stock, but I found some dupes for them on Amazon (pretty sure these are from the exact same manufacturer anyway!):
Lamps and Lights
Soft, warm lighting is a huge factor in creating a sense of peace and coziness in your space. I’ve had my little DIY terrarium lamp for years now—I made it by filling this Glass Pentagon Accent Lamp Base from World Market with dried moss! If you’re looking for a similar style (with the gold metal frame design only—not the glass), I’ve linked a similar lamp below.
I also surrounded my reading nook with LED fairy lights to create even more cozy ambience!
Plants and Accessories
Plants bring life and energy to any space, and a reading nook is no exception! Pictured are some of my favorite plant babies (a corn plant, a philodendron, and an orchid), along with some faux vines and fake plants, complete with cute planters.
I also placed a cute storage basked on my shelf to organize some of my books and accessories. And finally, what would a reading nook be without a soft, cuddly blanket? I’ve had mine for a long time, but this one from Amazon is similar.
Calming Scents
To make my reading corner even more peaceful, I placed a few of my favorite candles in the space, along with an oil reed diffuser and some Palo Santo (make sure to get sustainably sourced Palo Santo like this!). I created my own oil diffuser in a cute vintage style-bottle with some scented oil and reed diffuser sticks.
Books
… Obviously!! :)
Filling my reading nook with my favorite books was the best part, in my opinion! Here are just a few of the books I keep in my reading corner:
I am so, so happy with how my reading nook turned out. There’s something magical about designating a little corner of your home—no matter how small—to be a cozy, calming space filled with things that bring you joy
I hope this tour of my cozy bohemian reading corner has given you some inspiration to create a peaceful haven of your own!!

Haley
